Adopt a Loving Border Collie
Thank you for taking an interest in our organization and this special breed!
Under All Dogs you will find all of our current foster dogs. You can view the information and send an email to the listed contact for more information and ask questions. You must be an approved adopter in order to meet the dogs. The application process can take a couple of weeks to be completed and you are not guaranteed the dog that you are interested in. We often get multiple applications for each of our dogs and choosing the new family is entirely up to the foster home. This decision is made in the best interest of each individual dog and not based on the order in which an application arrives. Click Here for the Adoption Page.
Next In Line are dogs that are currently being relinquished and are approved to come to our rescue. However, they have not yet been placed with an approved foster family and so they are not covered by our organization’s policies. Any interest in these dogs is done so at your own risk. Please view the guidelines before inquiring.
Happy Endings are all of our dogs that have made it to their final destinations with a new FUREVER home! Take a look at all of the smiling faces that have made their journey through our ranks.
In order to adopt a dog from us, you must first submit an Adoption Application. To submit your application, you may apply online by clicking here. If you have any questions please email us at adoption@mwbcr.org.
Thank you for considering rescue first, and for opening your heart and home to a Border Collie in need.

Jesse
Age: 1-2 years
Breed: Border Collie mix
Sex: Male
Weight: 40 lbs
Energy Level: Low-Medium
Jesse is a young Border Collie mix who has been dealt a crummy beginning. He was found roaming the streets in a rural Kentucky town, starving. A kind person got him to rescue and fast forward to where he is now.
He arrived with a broken front tooth and thanks to EVERYONE who donated to the procedure, Jesse was able to have that removed! He is now pain free and much more comfortable.
Over time, he has shown himself to be a sensitive, athletic, and deeply loyal dog who does best with structure, patience, and people willing to give him time to adjust. As he’s grown more comfortable, his personality and enthusiasm for the outdoors have really started to emerge. He cracks us up as he LOVES to roll in the grass every chance that he gets as well as dragging his back legs through the grass in the most dramatic stretch possible.
Jesse is a sensitive dog who will need a bit to fully adjust to a new home. When faced with change, his first instinct is often to shut down and observe. With patience, consistency, and confident leadership, he builds trust and becomes deeply devoted to his people (currently enjoying life as a 40 lb. lap dog).
As his confidence has grown in foster care, Jesse’s playful, goofy personality has emerged. Once comfortable, he loves movement and is open to adventure. He now enjoys walks, runs, and even hikes, and he has done wonderfully with new experiences when given time and reassurance.
Jesse is crate-trained, sleeps quietly through the night, and does well when left alone. He is potty-trained, knows basic cues like “sit” and “no,” and is very food-motivated, making him receptive to training. Like many young herding dogs, Jesse can be nippy during play, and we continue to work on appropriate play skills with him.
He has a strong herding instinct and has shown herding and prey-drive behaviors toward cats and young children. While he is gentle at heart, his enthusiasm and instincts can be overwhelming for small kids. Jesse would do best in a cat-free home and a home without children, ideally with adults or older children familiar with herding breeds.
Jesse currently lives with 2 female dogs and another male foster dog was in the house for a while. He does fabulous with both genders and respects direction from them when they disagree with something that he might have done to "annoy" them. For example, he loves to chase and wrestle and sometimes can run into the girls when not paying attention, which they may let him know that they didn't like it and he is like "ok, sorry!" Never a reaction back from him.
He can be a noisy player (talkative) but quiets when asked. He has 2 rubber like balls that he LOVES LOVE LOVES. He snuggles with other toys but we have not seen him play with them like he does these balls.
Jesse is protective of his family in the home. He is currently working on resource guarding with his foster family and has been receptive to training, but he may always benefit from having a clearly defined space that is his own where he can decompress and feel secure. He has been comfortable meeting new people outside while on walks.
He was able to go on a 10 day Spring Break vacation with another foster home and did fabulous! He enjoyed meeting all their dogs and really enjoyed his new "people" for the week.
Jesse is athletic and has an excellent nose. He may be a wonderful fit for some agility, scent work, or enrichment-based classes, which would help build his confidence and strengthen his bond with his future family.
With the right home, one that understands herding breeds, values structure, and is willing to give him time, Jesse will thrive. He is loyal, sensitive, and full of promise, and once he bonds, he bonds deeply.
Neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Murphy
Age: ~2 years old
Breed: Border Collie
Sex: Male
Weight: 60lbs
Energy Level: Moderate
Meet Murphy!
Murphy is a stunning black-and-white Border Collie mix with beautiful ticking and an even more beautiful heart. This sweet boy hasn’t had the easiest start in life, but despite everything, he continues to love people and looks forward to finding a forever family of his own.
Murphy first found himself in a county shelter, where he was adopted just one week later by an older couple living in an apartment. Unfortunately, Murphy was simply too strong and energetic for their lifestyle, and after six months he was returned to the shelter — only to end up on the euthanasia list.
Thankfully, Murphy was given a second chance, and now he’s ready for the life he truly deserves.
Murphy gets along wonderfully with other dogs and genuinely enjoys their company. He especially loves having a canine buddy to play with, whether male or female. A home with another playful dog would be ideal for him.
He is both crate trained and house trained, and one of his absolute favorite things is going for car rides. Murphy also loves to run around the backyard and roll in the grass — pure joy for this boy! Because he enjoys outdoor play so much, a physically fenced yard would be best for him. His future family should be committed to positive, force-free training methods only, so no electric fences, e-collars, prong collars, or similar training tools.
Murphy enjoys walks, although he can pull at times. His foster family has been working with him, and he’s making progress, but his forever family will need to continue using positive reinforcement training. He’s incredibly smart, eager to learn, and already knows basic commands along with a few fun tricks. Murphy catches on quickly and responds very well to guidance. A formal training class would be a wonderful way to continue building his confidence and strengthen the bond with his forever family.
Because of his strength and enthusiasm, Murphy would do best in a home with children over the age of 10.
One thing Murphy is still discovering is how to simply be a dog. He hasn’t quite figured out fetch yet — almost as if he never had the opportunity to learn in his previous homes. Watching him experience new things and learn how to play has been incredibly rewarding.
Murphy is ready for a family that will be patient, active, and committed to giving him the love, structure, and companionship he’s always deserved. In return, he’ll give endless loyalty, affection, and plenty of happy car ride adventures.
Murphy is neutered, current on vaccinations, HW negative and microchipped.

Jasper (Adoption Pending)
Age: 6 years old
Breed: Border Collie
Sex: Male
Weight: TBD
Energy Level: Moderate
Jasper is tri-color and looks like he is part BC and part Aussie. This beautiful boy has the sweetest disposition. Jasper is so amiable and adores everyone he meets. He has such a calm, endearing personality, you can take this boy anywhere with you.
Jasper walks perfectly on a leash striding right next to you as you walk. He never pulls or tries to run away. He will chase a ball some, but isn't obsessed with it and he's not really into frisbees. He enjoys going on hikes in the woods and likes to explore the area. Jasper knows a couple of tricks and is extremely treat motivated making him easy to train.
He is very affectionate, and will wiggle up to you to have his head and his backside scratched. He makes the cutest grunting noise when he's happy or excited. He likes to take a ride in the car where he joyfully puts his head out the window.
Jasper gets along well with his four foster siblings. He hasn't engaged in play yet but it's early. He loves stuffed toys and tries to collect them in his space. He is potty trained, and hasn't had any accidents in my home.
Jasper was thin when we got him due being a stray and has already put on some weight. Although Jasper is six years old, he still has plenty of fun and love for at least 10 more years. Any home would be lucky to have this precious boy.
Jasper is neutered, current on vaccinations, HW negative and microchipped.

JB - Coming Soon
Age: 1.5-2
Breed: Border Collie Mix
Sex: Male
Weight: 45 lbs
Energy Level: Moderate
Location: Missouri
JB is a sensitive, intelligent dog who is slowly learning to trust the world again. He recently made the long trip back from Iowa and handled it without any issues. Since arriving, he has begun settling into a predictable routine and has made strong bonds with the resident dogs—especially the Malinois and a female German Shepherd he absolutely adores.
JB is skittish by nature and will need a patient adopter who can give him the space and time he needs. He is wary of new people and uncomfortable with handling. While he wags his tail and shows clear affection toward his trusted person, he does not enjoy being touched and often stiffens when petted. He will lick your hand when you’re not looking, but he’s not yet comfortable taking treats from hands. With the right person, he may continue to grow, but he will need an adopter who respects his boundaries.
JB is not recommended for homes with men, as he is generally fearful of them. A female-only home is ideal. He should also not live with cats or young children. Teenagers may be okay as long as they understand his space and needs.
On the bright side, JB does beautifully with other dogs and may benefit from living with a confident canine companion. He enjoys herding-type activities, loves to run, and frequently plays with the dogs in his foster home. Outdoors, he no longer chases the horses and respects their space. He does fairly well on walks and tends to circle his person, keeping close. While he hasn’t been off-leash, he has a solid recall and doesn’t try to run off when outside.
JB is housebroken, kennel trained, and goes into both his indoor and outdoor kennels easily. He is also fully vaccinated and HW negative. He knows a few basic commands like “come,” “sit,” and “kennel.” A patient training approach—or even a class—could help him build confidence, but he will need a trainer familiar with fearful dogs.
JB’s ideal home is quiet, structured, and led by a patient woman who understands nervous, shut-down, or fearful dogs. A fenced yard, another friendly dog, and a calm environment would help him continue to progress. Inside the home he tends to pace, but once things are still, he settles. Sudden movements send him retreating to his kennel, though he returns once the environment is calm again.
JB is a project dog—but a rewarding one for the right person. With time, consistency, and compassion, he will continue to blossom at his own pace. He’s looking for someone who sees beyond his fears and is ready to offer him the gentle, steady love he’s learning to trust.
