Lucy is a sweet, gentle soul full of love, curiosity, and Border Collie energy. She is affectionate, playful, and eager to connect with her people. Lucy thrives with patience, consistency, and structure, and will do best in an active home that enjoys working with intelligent, energetic dogs.

 

She loves children, gets along well with other dogs and cats, and would especially benefit from a home with another confident dog who can help model routines and “dog skills.”

 

Lucy’s history prior to rescue is unknown. She was found running across a road and has been in foster care since mid-November. Since then, she has made remarkable improvements in both her health and behavior.

 

When Lucy arrived, she was not potty-trained. With consistency and routine, she has learned that outside is where she goes potty and rarely has accidents. She typically needs one potty break overnight and benefits from more frequent opportunities to go outside during the day. 

 

Lucy does best when crated while home alone. She experiences some anxiety when left loose and may have accidents or get into mischief, so a crate helps her feel safe and successful. A home where someone is around most of the day would be ideal as she continues to build confidence and independence.

 

Lucy is intelligent, observant, and sensitive — very typical of the Border Collie breed. She walks beautifully on a leash and does not pull. She is a jumper and a climber and would likely excel at activities like agility, frisbee, or structured play that gives her both mental and physical outlets.

 

She can become overwhelmed by too much stimulation at once, but she is learning with gentle exposure and positive experiences. Continued socialization and basic training classes would be incredibly beneficial for her confidence and growth.

 

Lucy loves car rides and happily jumps in the car. A seatbelt or secure restraint is recommended, as she will roam otherwise.

 

Lucy has some kidney damage from an unknown cause. The good news is that her most recent veterinary checkup showed significant improvement — two of her three kidney values are now back to normal. At this time, she does not require a special kidney-support diet, though ongoing monitoring will be important. Her lifespan may be shorter than average, but she is currently feeling good and continues to thrive.

 

Lucy will do best with someone who:

 

Has experience with or understanding of the Border Collie breed

--Is patient, active, and enjoys training

--Can provide structure, consistency, and calm leadership

--Is home most of the day

--Is willing to continue her training and routine veterinary care

She has no history of aggression toward people, children, or other animals.

 

Lucy is a deeply loving dog who has so much to give. She is still learning how the world works, and with the right guidance, she will be an incredibly loyal, joyful companion. She deserves a home that can meet her energy, honor her sensitivity, and celebrate her continued growth.
